Our Goal

During my long, and fortunately profitable, series of careers in
the film business (actor, film booker/buyer at a major national theater
chain, casting director, film reviewer, interviewer and commentator
etc.) I've never lost my life-long passion for the films of the
"golden age" (as I write this I'm surrounded by original film posters, some of
which you'll see exhibited on the pages of this site.)
That passion is stronger than ever,
and I've created this site solely for classic film fans,
such as myself, who aren't particularly interested in wading
through reviews of countless contemporary films on
dvd in order to access information/commentary on current classic
film dvd releases.
To put it plainly, the primary goal of DVD CLASSICS CORNER will
be to review as many dvd classic releases (nothing contemporary!) as we
possibly can, with our principal concerns being the image and sound
quality. We don't plan to devote a lot of space to credit lists nor to
storylines, which we'll dispense with in one or two sentences
(no spoilers ever!).

That said, we believe these classics should be seen,
for reviewing purposes, on equipment that best
duplicates the original viewing experience, and I've taken great pains to construct
 a pitch-black and professionally sound-proofed screening room
with the following equipment:

  • INFOCUS DLP SCREENPLAY 7200 PROJECTOR

    STEWART FIREHAWK SEVEN FOOT SCREEN

PIONEER ELITE DVL 90 DVD/ LD PLAYER

    PIONEER DVL 919 DVD/LD PLAYER

PANASONIC DMR E80H DVD PLAYER RECORDER

    PIONEER ELITE VSX-07TX AUDIO/VIDEO RECEIVER

    VELODYNE CHT SUBWOOFER

JBL SPEAKERS (FRONT) and BOSTON ACOUSTICS SPEAKERS (REAR)

(Occasional classic black-and-white television releases on dvd will be
reviewed separately on my SONY VIDEOSCOPE KP61XBR48 television.)

It's been a long and arduous haul getting this site set up to my
admittedly persnickety standards, but if I've created a comfortable
home for you classic dvd movie fans, I feel it's more than worth it.
Keep well, keep happy, and keep reading!
